The Potato Group Presents to Adoption Lancashire & Blackpool

In September, members of The Potato Group were invited to present to Adoption Lancashire & Blackpool during their annual training day.

Adoption Lancashire & Blackpool (ALB) is one of four Regional Adoption Agencies (RAAs) in the North West of England. Each year, ALB hosts a day-long learning and development event for staff across all professional disciplines, during which they invite external individuals and organisations to present.

Events in previous years have included themes such as The Voice of the Adoptee and The Voice of the Birth Family, presented by Angela Frazer-Wicks. This year, The Potato Group was invited to present The Voice of the Adopter.

Following a presentation by Sarah Johal, National Strategic Lead for Adoption, representatives from The Potato Group delivered a day of talks, research presentations, films, and panel discussions, exploring the many challenges experienced by Potato Group families.

Listening to real life experiences was really powerful. Very thought provoking. I sat listening to experiences thinking about children who I am working with.

Attendee feedback.

The event was attended by 120 professionals, including social workers, independent reviewing officers, heads of service, and local authority directors. Of those who attended, 100% reported that the event had improved their knowledge, and 98% said they would recommend it to others.

As an adopter myself, this lived experience needs to be desperately shared to all professionals.
